Many people wonder what backflows are for, and why you need them. There are many things backflows do but the main reason why we have them is to protect the health and safety of the public. They prevent the reversal of flow of a liquid, gas or solid from getting back into the potable water supply. Most backflows for a residential application are used for irrigation. Once the potable water (drinkable water) goes through your irrigation system it is considered non-potable (Non-drinkable/contaminated) and therefore must have a suitable backflow prevention device according to the authority having jurisdiction.
Entering any commercial or non-residential building you must have a correct backflow preventer before making any connections. You also must have a backflow preventer for any sprinkler system that is connected to the water line to prevent cross connection. The city of Albuquerque requires yearly certificates of testing and maintaining your backflow devices to prevent cross- contamination in your water. We have been testing and certifying backflows since1992, which is the time that it was adopted in our code.
We have several certified backflow and cross connection testers currently working at Donner Plumbing & HVAC. We can test any backflow whether it's a residential house, a commercial building, a school, or any other facility or building. Our certified cross connection and backflow testers are well trained, well equipped to get the job done, and willing to help with any problem you may have.
